What’s Happening in Rugby This Weekend: October 2–4, 2026

What’s Happening in Rugby This Weekend, October 2–4, 2026

The first weekend of October brings rugby from American college and club fields to Cork, England, Wales, Scotland, Italy, South Africa and France.

For U.S. fans, there is a particularly busy college schedule across CRAA, NIRA and NCR, another full Saturday of USA club rugby, and plenty to watch from overseas. Ireland and Japan meet again in women’s international rugby, while PREM Rugby, the United Rugby Championship and France’s Top 14 all continue their domestic seasons.

Here is what is happening in rugby this weekend, Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 4.

🎓 USA College Rugby

American college rugby moves into October with games across CRAA, NIRA and NCR.

RFC has a separate USA College Rugby Weekend Preview with a deeper look at the schedule, but several games stand out across the weekend.

Queens Men at Belmont Abbey

Fri, Oct 2 · 8:00 p.m. ET7:00 p.m. CT / 6:00 p.m. MT / 5:00 p.m. PT

Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, North Carolina · NCR Atlantic Rugby Conference · Watch on NCR TV (free)

Friday Night Rugby opens the weekend with No. 3 Queens visiting No. 4 Belmont Abbey in a meeting of two of the leading men’s programs in the Atlantic Rugby Conference. The rankings are from National Collegiate Rugby’s September 30 preview of the matchup.

Both teams enter 1–1 in conference play, and both have already discovered how small the margins can be. Defending national champion St. Bonaventure beat Belmont Abbey 14–13 and Queens 20–19, while Queens also owns a 20-point conference victory over Kutztown.

Belmont Abbey is 3–1 overall this fall, with wins over Clemson, Wheeling and Wingate and its only defeat coming by one point against St. Bonaventure.

There is also recent postseason history between the teams. Queens beat Belmont Abbey 19–15 in the 2025 NCR national semifinals, making Friday night an early-season rematch between two programs that were separated by only four points with a place in the national championship game at stake.

Southern Virginia at Navy

Sat, Oct 3 · 11:00 a.m. ET10:00 a.m. CT / 9:00 a.m. MT / 8:00 a.m. PT

Prusmack Rugby Center, Annapolis, Maryland · CRAA Rugby East

Navy enters the weekend 4–0 overall and 2–0 in Rugby East after victories over St. Bonaventure, Air Force, Mary Washington and Army. That run includes a victory over defending national champion St. Bonaventure, the same team that has already beaten both Queens and Belmont Abbey by a single point this fall.

Southern Virginia heads to Annapolis after a 29–12 loss to Penn State last weekend.

Army at Penn State

Sat, Oct 3 · Kickoff to be confirmed

West IM Fields, University Park, Pennsylvania · CRAA Rugby East

Army goes straight from its rivalry game against Navy into another Rugby East road test at Penn State.

Kickoff note: Army and Penn State currently list different start times for Saturday’s game. RFC is therefore leaving the kickoff time unconfirmed until the schools align rather than publishing one of the conflicting times as definitive.

St. Thomas vs. Davenport Men

Sat, Oct 3 · 11:00 a.m. ET10:00 a.m. CT / 9:00 a.m. MT / 8:00 a.m. PT

Charlotte, North Carolina · Men’s college rugby

Davenport’s men meet St. Thomas of Florida in Charlotte. The Panthers enter the game after wins over Mount St. Mary’s and Aquinas earlier in their fall schedule.

AIC at Dartmouth

Sat, Oct 3 · 4:00 p.m. ET3:00 p.m. CT / 2:00 p.m. MT / 1:00 p.m. PT

Brophy Field, Hanover, New Hampshire · NIRA

Dartmouth returns home looking to respond after consecutive defeats. The Big Green opened the season by beating Army before losses to Life and Harvard.

Davenport Women at Sacred Heart

Sat, Oct 3 · 4:00 p.m. ET3:00 p.m. CT / 2:00 p.m. MT / 1:00 p.m. PT

Park Ave Field, Fairfield, Connecticut · NIRA

Sacred Heart enters the weekend 1–2 after earning its first win of the fall with a 69–7 victory over the Queens University of Charlotte women’s team. Davenport’s women provide the next test as the Pioneers return home to Fairfield.
