The Women’s Elite Rugby season enters a pivotal weekend as the race for first place tightens and the battle for playoff positioning intensifies.
Bay Breakers and Denver Onyx sit atop the WER standings with identical 5-1 records and 25 competition points. Just behind them, TC Gemini remains firmly in contention at 4-2 and only two points off the lead.
Further down the table, New York Exiles, Boston Banshees, and Chicago Tempest are running out of opportunities to gain ground. With every result carrying increased significance, Week 7 could prove to be one of the most important rounds of the inaugural WER season.
All three matches this weekend are rematches from earlier in the year.

Denver Onyx vs New York Exiles

The Exiles have shown growth since that defeat. A victory over TC Gemini demonstrated that New York can challenge the league’s top sides, and the club currently occupies fourth place in the standings.
For New York to pull off an upset, slowing Denver’s attack will be essential. Parr leads WER with eight tries this season, while Cunningham remains among the league’s most reliable kickers. The Exiles will look to Congetta Owens and Caoimhe O’Sullivan Roche to provide the spark needed to challenge the league leaders.

Bay Breakers vs Boston Banshees
The first meeting between these teams was far more competitive than the final score suggests.
While Bay eventually secured a 40-25 victory, Boston held a 20-17 lead at halftime and appeared capable of producing one of the season’s biggest upsets.

Roseline Okpara entered the match and delivered one of the most memorable performances of the WER season, scoring three tries after halftime and helping Bay pull away. Nicola Lynch, Tapaita Satini, and Roxelle Thomas also crossed for the Breakers.
Bay has continued to establish itself as one of the league’s premier teams, combining a dynamic attack with consistent results throughout the season. The Breakers’ victory over Denver remains one of the defining results of the campaign and gives them confidence entering the final stretch.
Boston, meanwhile, remains in search of a statement result. Despite its record, the Banshees have shown flashes of quality and proved in the first meeting that they can compete with Bay for long stretches.
The challenge now is turning those stretches into a complete 80-minute performance.

TC Gemini vs Chicago Tempest
The largest margin of victory in the opening round of the season belonged to TC Gemini.
Back in Week 1, Gemini opened its campaign with a dominant 78-22 victory over Chicago, running in 11 tries and producing one of the most impressive attacking displays seen all season.
Melisa Rios Mena led the way with a hat trick, while Hannah Pfersch, Megan Ahnen, Sophie Pyrz, Emilee Jalosuo, Serena Liu, Whitney Smith, Natayah Bauer, and Kathryn Johnson all added tries. Chloe Headland controlled the match from the kicking tee, converting nine tries and adding a penalty goal.
While the scoreline was emphatic, Chicago enters this rematch as a more experienced and battle-tested side.
The Tempest continue to search for consistency but have shown improvement throughout the season and remain determined to prove the gap between the teams is narrower than the Week 1 result indicated.
For Gemini, the objective is clear. Sitting just two points behind Bay and Denver, every match is critical in the race for first place. Another victory keeps pressure on the league leaders and maintains momentum heading toward the postseason.
