Rugby Fan Central Week in Review: 200 U.S. club rugby results and the countdown to Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027.

From 200 U.S. club results on one Saturday to statement college victories, women’s internationals in Europe and the countdown to Rugby World Cup 2027, here is what mattered from September 28 through October 4.

October arrived with rugby being played across the United States at virtually every level.

Rugby Fan Central’s USA Club Rugby system recorded 200 final scores on Saturday, October 3, while the college game produced notable victories for Queens, Army, Navy, Dartmouth and Sacred Heart.

Internationally, Ireland defeated Japan for the second time in seven days, South Africa completed its European tour with victory over Spain, and Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 reached its one-year-to-go milestone.

200 USA Club Rugby Results Fill the Map

Saturday provided another reminder of the scale of the American club game.

RFC’s USA Club Rugby system recorded 200 completed results on October 3, covering competitions across the country. Some of the scores were enormous.

In Empire Men’s D3, Union County Mudturtles defeated Princeton 107–7. In Midwest Men’s D2 Central, Chicago Lions beat Fox Valley Maori 103–5, while Des Moines defeated Milwaukee 83–0 in Midwest Men’s D2 Western.

South Buffalo recorded an 80–0 victory over North Buffalo Ninjas in Midwest Women’s D2 Northern, while Buffalo defeated South Pittsburgh Hooligans 79–24 in Midwest Men’s D2 Eastern.

There were much closer contests at the other end of the spectrum. St. Paul Jazz Pigs edged Rochester Rogues 27–26, while NYRC and Long Island finished 10–10 in Empire Men’s D3 Metro.

In the American Rugby Premiership, Life University’s senior club side defeated Mystic River 55–12.

From three-figure scores to a one-point finish and a draw, it was another weekend that demonstrated the breadth of the U.S. club rugby schedule.

Queens Wins the Carolina Clash

One of the college games RFC highlighted before the weekend delivered an important Atlantic Rugby Conference result, with Queens University defeating Belmont Abbey 26–12 on Friday night.

Queens led 12–6 at halftime before Belmont Abbey reduced the margin to three points after the break. The Royals responded with two more tries to pull clear and secure the victory, moving to 2–1 in Atlantic Rugby Conference play.

Army Explodes After Halftime at Penn State

Army and Penn State were separated by only four points at halftime. Then the Black Knights took control.

Army scored 36 points in the second half to defeat Penn State 43–8 in University Park. Porter Kuebler scored three tries, while Nick Trout contributed five conversions and a penalty.

Army led just 7–3 at halftime before breaking the game open after the interval. The victory moved the Black Knights to 4–1 overall and 1–1 in Rugby East.

Navy Remains Perfect

Navy’s men continued their unbeaten start with a convincing 64–8 victory over Southern Virginia in Annapolis.

Reid Gerber and Eric Wrzyszcynski each scored twice during the first half as Navy built a 31–3 halftime advantage, while Sam Pirkl kicked seven conversions. The victory moved Navy to 5–0 overall and 3–0 in Rugby East.

Elsewhere in the men’s college game, Life University’s collegiate side defeated Mary Washington 47–22, Utah beat Wyoming 78–12, Davenport defeated St. Thomas 33–25, and Minnesota beat Trine 40–20.

La Salle Pushes Navy Before Late Scores Settle It

Navy’s women defeated La Salle 50–30, but the final margin does not tell the whole story.

La Salle led twice during the first half before Navy took a 15–12 advantage into halftime. The Explorers continued to challenge after the break and closed the score to 36–30 with a little more than 10 minutes remaining.

Navy then scored the final two tries to secure the victory and end La Salle’s three-match winning streak.

Larkin Scores Four as Dartmouth Beats AIC

Dartmouth returned to the win column with a 57–19 victory over American International College at Brophy Field.

Marley Larkin scored four tries, while Annie Henrich accounted for 22 points with two tries and six conversions. Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen added two tries and Jordynn LeBeau also scored.

The victory moved Dartmouth to 2–2 and handed AIC its first defeat of the season.

Perez Hat Trick Leads Sacred Heart Shutout

Sacred Heart produced one of the weekend’s most decisive NIRA results, shutting out Davenport 38–0.

Lily Perez scored a hat trick, with two of her tries coming in the final minutes. Sacred Heart had already built a 26–0 halftime advantage before completing the shutout.

In NIRA Division II, Frostburg State rallied to defeat Bowdoin 20–17. Bowdoin held a 17–10 advantage early in the second half before Frostburg scored the final 10 points.

Ireland Beats Japan Again

Ireland completed back-to-back victories over Japan with a 43–19 win at Virgin Media Park in Cork.

Ireland led 22–7 at halftime and ultimately scored seven tries. Éilis Cahill, Brittany Hogan, Neve Jones, Anna McGann and Béibhinn Parsons crossed before Alana McInerney and Sophie Barrett scored tries on their Ireland debuts.

Japan responded through Sakurako Korai, Nami Asari and Nijiho Nagata and reduced Ireland’s lead to 29–19 before McInerney and Barrett’s late tries put the game beyond reach.

South Africa Shuts Out Spain in Seville

South Africa completed its European tour with a 20–0 victory over Spain in the WXV Global Series at La Cartuja in Seville.

Catha Jacobs scored the opening try before Jakkie Cilliers converted and added a penalty to give the Springbok Women a 10–0 halftime lead. Aseza Hele scored after the break before Cilliers crossed in the 67th minute to complete the scoring.

As the calendar turned to October, Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 reached its one-year-to-go milestone.

World Rugby announced that more than 1.3 million tickets had been secured by supporters from 164 countries, representing more than half of the available ticket inventory.

The expanded tournament will feature 24 teams and 52 matches and will run from October 1 through November 13, 2027.

For American supporters, the countdown has particular significance. The USA is in Pool E alongside France, Japan and Samoa.

The Eagles will open against France in Melbourne on October 2, face Samoa in Perth on October 9, and complete pool play against Japan in Adelaide on October 15.

USA returns to the Rugby World Cup after missing France 2023, having secured qualification with a 29–13 victory over Samoa during the 2025 Pacific Nations Cup.
