Kassil Suspended for Canada’s Next Two WXV Matches; Nasilasila Gets One-Match Ban
Canada will be without Brittany Kassil for its next two WXV Global Series matches after the forward received a three-match suspension following her red card against Scotland.
World Rugby also confirmed that Fiji’s Isoa Nasilasila has been suspended for one match following his red card against Canada in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup.
Kassil to miss England and France
Kassil was sent off during Canada’s WXV Global Series match against Scotland on September 12 after an upright tackle resulted in a head-to-head collision.
World Rugby said Kassil accepted that foul play had occurred and that the red card was warranted.
The Foul Play Review Committee determined that the incident carried the mandatory mid-range entry point of six matches for head contact. Full mitigation reduced the suspension to three matches.
Kassil will miss Canada’s WXV matches against England on September 19 and France on September 26.
A third match, Canada against England on October 16, is currently included in the suspension, although Kassil can become available for that match if she successfully completes World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme.
Nasilasila suspension reduced to one match
Fiji’s Isoa Nasilasila will miss the Pacific Nations Cup match against Japan on September 19 after receiving a one-match suspension.
Nasilasila was red-carded against Canada for an offence under Law 9.20(d), involving the removal of a jackler by rolling, pulling or twisting.
The Foul Play Review Committee initially proposed a six-match mid-range sanction, reduced to three matches with mitigation. Nasilasila did not accept the proposed sanction, sending the case to a full disciplinary hearing on September 16.
The Disciplinary Committee instead determined that the incident warranted a low-end entry point of two matches. Full 50 percent mitigation reduced the final suspension to one match.
Both decisions come during an important weekend for the two competitions, with Canada facing England in the WXV Global Series and Fiji meeting Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup on September 19.
